What Are Signs You Need Roof Repair?

  1. Broken shingles – Shingles that are bent, cracked, dirty, or that have sustained water damage are all good reasons to contact our team for roof repair in League City. Shingles have a limited lifespan and might need to be replaced if you keep experiencing these issues.
  2. Peeling paint – If there isn’t proper ventilation in your attic, this could cause humidity and in turn for your exterior paint to peel. You just need to a new coating and to fix the ventilation problem and your roof network should be back to normal.
  3. Leak in the attic – There’s no more clear sign of a need for roof repair than a water leak. Be on the lookout after a serious storm and just know that if this is a recurring problem you might need roof replacement.
  4. Sagging roof deck – If your rafters are sagging down instead of staying erect, contact our team as quickly as possible for comprehensive roof repair in League City. If you catch this problem early, you can avoid replacing the roof outright.
  5. Spikes in energy bills – If there are unexplained spikes in your utility bills, it could be because the insulation in your attic isn’t operating properly. If air is leaking out of your roof, your heater or AC will have to work overtime to maintain the proper temperature.

Roof Repair FAQ

We understand that you probably have lots of questions about repairing your roof. Take a look below at the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions we receive. If you don’t see your question answered, feel free to give us a call and we’d be happy to help.

What Causes Roofs to Wear Out?

Common reasons for roof repairs include high winds, severe rain, and hail storms. However, moisture from rainy or humid weather may also contribute to mildew and mold growth, promoting rot. In addition, because darker roofs absorb more direct sunlight than lighter-colored roofs, they also tend to wear out slightly faster.

Can My Roof Be Repaired or Does it Have to Be Replaced?

The type and extent of the damage to your roof will determine whether you can repair it. The damage can be repaired with a relatively new roof that leaks in an isolated spot or missing a few shingles or tiles. Older roofs with widespread problems may not be possible to make repairs.

How Long Do Roof Repair Jobs Take?

Again, the answer is “it depends” because every roof is different. Smaller jobs may take a few hours, or you could potentially be looking at a few days. We can give you a more accurate time-frame when our roofers get up on the roof and assess the scope of the project.

Frequent Questions We Hear Often

This depends on the environment. A shingle roof usually lasts 15 years. That is just an average. Some will need to be replaced at 10 years and others will last over 20. Debris, sun light, ventilation and other factors, such as bird nesting, play a vital role with how long your roof will last.

In our honest opinion, they are all the same. Except F-Wave being a synthetic shingle. Which is great quality and guaranteed to last 50 years. Get in touch to learn more about F-Wave. Back to Asphalt Shingles. The difference is in the policies from the different manufacturers and how well they stand behind their product if something goes wrong. Also, the color choices. Not all companies have the same color choices or availability in our region.

Flashings such as pipe jacks for your bathroom and kitchen vents. An underlayment such as ASTM grade 15# felt. Drip edge or edge metal around the perimeter of the roof.

The longevity of your shingles will depend on the surrounding environment. Proper ventilation, keeping dirt and debris off the roof, and if they are in direct sunlight most of the day are all important factors.

All shingles should have an underlayment. If your roof is not being torn off and the new shingles are being installed over the existing roof, you do not need to install a new underlayment between the old shingles and new shingles. If you are tearing off the old roof down to the deck or this is a new build, an underlayment must be used.

Shingle roofs will have granule loss over multiple areas of the roof. You may also find pieces of the shingles on the ground after a windy day, this is due to the shingles being brittle and breaking off.

On a tile roof it is extremely hard to tell unless you are having multiple leaks in different areas of the house. If you are experiencing multiple leaks, it is a good indication that the underlayment has either reached the end of its lifespan or that it was installed incorrectly.

Flat roofs with foam and coatings, you will start to see the foam exposed through the top layers of coating. Once the foam has been exposed to the sun, it will need to be ground down or tore off depending on how brittle the foam is.

In addition to having a variety of styles, textures, and colors to choose from, asphalt roofing shingles are cost-effective, durable and easy to maintain. Some varieties of asphalt shingles are manufactured to resemble tile, wood, cedar shakes or slate, while providing more benefits than these other roofing materials. You can visit www.asphaltroofing.org for more information.

To make asphalt shingles, a roll of organic felt or fiberglass mat is mounted and fed into a dry looper. The material passes through a presaturation chamber, then goes into a saturator tank filled with hot asphalt, which coats the fibers. If needed, the material passes through the wet looping machine.

Eves, attics, overhangs, skylights or dead pockets. Check every room, especially in the closets and areas you don’t see every day.

Yes, however some shingles are different sizes and they won’t lay down flat. You should also check your local building codes to verify how many layers they will allow. The standard rule is no more than two.

If your roof is well maintained, every 20 years or when you see signs of aging such as granular loss, fiberglass showing, and/or cracked and broken shingles.

Andrew from Alpha 1 was very professional. He worked with our insurance and our solar panel company to get everything organized and complete. He was diligent and explained everything to us down to the last detail. He even went out of his way to make sure that the job was done correctly. Finally, he followed up with us to make sure we were satisfied. The best thing is they got everything done in one day.

The day after the April hailstorm, our neighborhood was inundated with roofers wanting to inspect my roof. I scheduled an inspection with one of them, but they never showed and never followed up. Luckily, I met Eric from Alpha1 the following week, and from the moment we started working together, he was prompt, professional, and friendly. He made himself available via phone, text, email, and in person. This was my first time dealing with hail damage, and Eric walked me through the entire process, including how to deal with my insurance and mortgage companies (claims, inspections, checks, endorsements–everything). He set expectations about when the work would be done, followed up with reminders, and came by multiple times to check the work in progress. The crew who did the work was great; they put tarps down everywhere before tearing off the old roof and cleaned up after they were done. They were really thorough and left no trace behind. I honestly thought replacing my roof was going to be a giant hassle and that I would be fighting everyone involved to get it done. Instead, Eric made it a breeze, and it was completely stress-free. It’s not easy to trust someone who knocks on your door trying to sell something, but Eric proved himself to be trustworthy and helpful. I’ve already recommended Alpha1 to my neighbors and would recommend it especially to first timers who have never dealt with this kind of thing before. You’ll be in good hands with them.

Greg called me right after the Hail Storm and was the first to call. He came out the next day or two and inspected the roof, even inviting me up to show me the details. Afterward, we retired to the living room and he discussed how the process would work, even explaining to me the process of contacting the Insurance Company to make sure everything was covered. Greg was the first roofer to contact me, so, the old adage “The early bird gets the worm, really paid off” Greg’s crew showed up and fixed the roof in a very timely manner. Afterward, Greg had me accompany him on to the roof for “inspection” and while I am no roofer, I could tell that the job was done professionally. The next day, a couple of members of the crew showed up and finished cleaning up, even getting rid of a couple of limbs that had been blown off my trees in the storm. I have been very complimentary with anyone who asks me (and some who don’t, lol) about Alpha. I do hope to not need them again, but, in West Texas, you never know. The next time I won’t have to wait to be called, I have their number.

We had Alpha-1 redo our backyard fence. Tommy was always friendly, quick to respond to questions, and was very flexible in working with our schedule. Their work was very high-quality, and he gave us a great price for the project. Once they started, they had the old fence completely removed (around 200 linear feet) and the new fence up in 2 days . Great communication, great workmanship, very professional. 5 Stars.
