Debunking 3 Common Roof Myths

There’s more to roofing than meets the eye. We all want a roof over our heads that does its job, but it takes hard work to make that happen. Not only that, the work is more complicated than you might think. We encounter misconceptions about roofing all the time. That’s why we want to dispel some of the following myths.

#1: Re-roofing

It’s a common misconception that you can simply put shingles on top of existing shingles to recover your roof. This isn’t the same as replacement and can cause a huge headache down the line. Why? Your old shingles have worn down over time and won’t be able to form the necessary seal you need for your new roofing materials to keep out rain and wind.

#2: Anyone Can Repair a Roof

A novice repairing a roof is not only going to not get much done, but the work that they do manage to accomplish will not be as clean as your experienced local roofer. Your odds of suffering future damage in the form of leaks is much higher if you try to repair your roof yourself. Additionally, roofing is dangerous without proper safety precautions. It’s so easy to lose your footing, slip, and cause serious injuries. Leave it to the pros!

#3: It’s Too Hot or Cold to Replace my Roof Right Now

As long as there isn’t a storm overhead, you’re good to replace your roof. It doesn’t take as long to do as you might think. Most roofing jobs can be completed in a day or two. Don’t let worries over time impact your ability to live safely and comfortably with a roof over your head.
